Potential violations include: denial of access to health care while in custody; conditions of confinement (overcrowding, sanitation, food, heath); denial of access to counsel or attorneys in jail; physical abuse; threats; intimidation; discrimination based upon race, gender, disability, sexual preference, transgendered; discriminatory treatment (e.g., isolation, excessive bail) based upon the content of your free speech or protest activity; failure to release after bond was posted.

· A complaint involving minor misconduct should be filed within 60 days of the incident.
· A complaint involving serious misconduct should be filed within 6 months of the incident.
· Exceptions to these timeliness rules may be made if good cause is shown.
· Even if dismissed, the Police and Sheriff Departments maintain records of complaints for audit purposes.
