The NLG DNC-People's Law Project could
not defend protesters' rights without your financial
support.
Officials expect 800 to 2000 arrests to occur at the 2008
Democratic National Convention in Denver. Denver's City
Attorney and the Police Department have promised that they
do not "cite and release" protesters. Legal observing and
representation are key to ensure that the constitutional
rights of demonstrators are guaranteed -- from the streets
to the jails and to the courtroom.
The People's Law Project of the Colorado National Lawyers
Guild is organizing attorneys, law students, and legal
workers to help protect the right to peaceful expression
and uphold the constitution. We need your help to obtain
office space during the DNC, train lawyers and legal
observers, coordinate legal defense, and assemble evidence
for use in potential civil rights litigation.
Your donation will enable us
to train legal observers, distribute Know Your Rights
information, coordinate the legal defense of demonstrators
who may find themselves arrested for free speech activity
at DNC, and fund civil litigation necessary to rectify
violations of constitutional rights.
